Why did you choose to pursue an advanced degree in public health?
I had reached a point where I felt that I could not move forward in the career that I wanted without an advance degree.
Why did you choose UIC as the place where you would obtain this degree?
UIC has an exciting interdisciplinary program with a focus on local service that paralleled my personal goals and interest. I was particularly interested in the Maternal and Child Health program as an avenue to build on my previous work in women’s health. I had a great experience with a number of opportunities to gain the research experience that helped my land my current job.
Explain what you do in your current role as a public health professional.
I conduct clinical and social science research to improve the reproductive health of women and adolescents. Our research explores how biological, interpersonal, and structural factors affect family planning attitudes and behaviors.
What future career goals do you have for yourself?
I plan to continue in research and build toward becoming an independent researcher. I also plan to return to school to pursue a PhD.
