Research

Through the Research Core, we work to advance research in women's health across disciplines. Our investigators have a particular focus on health disparities in underserved populations and in midlife and aging women.

Opportunities to Participate in Research

Resources for Researchers

Objectives in the Research Core include:

  • Planning and implementing a women's health research agenda that spans disciplines.
  • Encouraging multi- and inter-disciplinary collaboration among researchers in women's health science.
  • Promoting the training of research scientists in women's health research.
  • Enhancing participation of women in research, with an emphasis on women from underrepresented and special populations.
  • Disseminating information on women's health research issues and outcomes to community women and clinicians, as well as to city, state, and national policy makers and the media.

Research Core Activities

We employ multiple mechanisms to facilitate collaborations among faculty colleagues across the university and beyond, including:

Research Roundtables Dialogues among multidisciplinary researchers and clinicians to discover potential points of collaboration in women's health science.

Women's Health Researcher Database: Management of a database that profiles UIC women's health researchers, including research expertise and funding. If you are interested in being included in this database, or you would like to access the database for research purposes, contact the database manager, Tarini Bedi at tbedi1@uic.edu.

Women's Health Research: Through the UIC Center of Excellence in Women's Health, we have received and seek national, state, and local funding for studies focusing on a wide range of topics affecting the health of women of all ages and cultural backgrounds and for the research training of scientists in women's health.

Opportunities to Participate in Research

To increase the participation of women and minorities in human subjects research, we have created a Women's Health Research Registry. The Research Registry is designed to raise public awareness about clinical trials and human subjects research at UIC.

We invite you to find out more about opportunities to participate in women's health research by calling the UIC Call Center at 1-800-842-1002 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

To help you learn more about research studies at UIC that are currently recruiting women, we offer a searchable database of research opportunties for women. To access the database, click here.

Women's Health Research Registry: UIC researchers that are currently recruiting women may advertise their IRB-approved research studies using our database of research opportunities for women. Your study will be listed on the searchable database of research opportunities for women, and will also be included in a monthly newsletter sent to community women who have joined Research Registry through UIC's Call Center. To add your study to the database:

Step 1:
Fill out the application located at http://www.cade.uic.edu/eHealth/application.aspx
(Note: It is important that IRB approval covers promotion of your study on the CoE website using the exact wording that you will be submitting. If you do not have this approval, an amendment to your protocol must be sent before you complete the application.)

Step 2:
CoE staff will send you a password for submission into the searchable database. You or a designated staff person will complete all information and assure accuracy for your protocol's description.

Research Core Director:
