Check out the changes to summer programming at Hull-House Museum!
This summer, the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum (JAHHM) is embarking on “Porch: Slow Revolution” an experiment in slowness.
In order to slow down our visitors and staff and inspire greater reflection, we are activating the previously unused Hull-House porch from June-September of 2014. During this intentional slowdown, JAHHM will design and implement all public programs to suite our large porch, which wraps around the perimeter of the historic house. “Slow Revolution” on the porch will be enlivened through a variety of exchanges that depart from the more formal gatherings we typically curate in the Residents' Dining Hall throughout the rest of the year. Please join us this summer as we explore new forms of learning, sharing and relating. We hope new "neighbors" will stop by for unexpected and meaningful moments of engagement.
Although “Slow Revolution” allows us to experiment with slow practices, we remain committed to recognizing the urgency of justice while exploring informal modes of learning, leisure and play. Our work on the porch will not depart from connecting the legacy of Jane Addams and the Hull-House settlement to the most pressing social issues of today, including war, immigration, gender inequity, poverty, food justice and racial equity. “Slow Revolution” on the porch gives us permission to transform the ways we examine and engage with communities of justice through new modes of programming like storytelling, music and dialogue, instead of lectures and panel discussions.
The Residents’ Dining Hall (RDH) will continue to be available to community members for meetings and events. Proceed to “Event Request Form” on this page to submit a room request or email firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
We welcome those interested in hosting a public program at Hull-House between June and September 2014, to consider the porch as the venue. Rental proposals can be submitted to the team of summer Recreation Workers coordinating “Slow Revolution” porch activities. Questions about collaborating for this exciting summer slow down should be directed to Isis Ferguson, Program Coordinator at email@example.com
