Two California institutions are ahead of UIC on the list: University of California, Irvine, at No. 7 and University of California, Santa Cruz, No. 11. The only other U.S. institution included in the top 50 is University of Texas at Dallas, No. 15.

“This is an incredible achievement that we owe to our faculty, alumni, staff and students. This recognition is evidence of our continued focus on excellence, as well as a testament to the impact we make in Chicago and around the world with the knowledge that we create and translate to solving real-life problems,” said Chancellor Paula Allen-Meares.

Times Higher Education, published in the United Kingdom, said the 100 Under 50 list “provides a glimpse into the future, showcasing not those institutions with centuries of history, but the rising stars which show great potential.”

According to the publication, which also produces the annual World University Rankings, the institutions in the 100 Under 50 rankings are evaluated more for objective performance indicators such as research, citations, teaching, international outlook and innovation, and less for subjective indicators of academic prestige.

“The leaders of the new generation of institutions featured here are remarkably bullish: happy to compete on equal terms with the old guard and confident of their ability to thrive in a dynamic and diverse higher education sector,” writes Times Higher Education rankings editor Phil Baty.

“Some even see their relative youth not as a hindrance but as a clear strategic advantage in an uncertain global academy that demands bravery, risk-taking and fresh thinking.”

The other U.S. institutions on the 100 Under 50 list are George Mason (57), University of Maryland, Baltimore County (65), Florida International University (73) and University of Texas at San Antonio (91). massmail http://www.uic.edu/test MassmailFeed Tue, 06 May 2014 13:01:32 -0500 Tue, 06 May 2014 13:01:32 -0500 Aviation Commissioner on campus
The College of Engineering Distinguished Lecture Series Presents

Rosemarie Andolino, Aviation Commissioner.

Take this opportunity to hear Ms. Rosemarie Andolino, Chicago’s Commissioner of Aviation, speak on the topic “Chicago Department of Aviation: Connecting Chicago to the World.”

April 17 3:30-4:30
Cardinal Room, Student Center East
Registration required at madelyn@uic.edu

Refreshments will be served following Ms. Andolino’s presentation.

If you require any accommodations to attend this event, please contact Madelyn Thompson, 312.413.1387, madelyn@uic.edu

View online: http://go.uic.edu/AviationCommissioner massmail http://www.uic.edu/test MassmailFeed Fri, 11 Apr 2014 11:18:11 -0500 Fri, 11 Apr 2014 11:18:11 -0500 Aviation Commissioner on campus The College of Engineering Distinguished Lecture Series Presents

View online: http://go.uic.edu/AviationCommissioner massmail http://www.uic.edu/test MassmailFeed Fri, 11 Apr 2014 11:10:09 -0500 Fri, 11 Apr 2014 11:10:09 -0500 [TEST] Congressman Luis Gutierrez at UIC (April 7, RSVP requested) Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

Please join us on Monday, April 7th to welcome Congressman Luis Gutierrez to UIC. Currently, the UIC United Faculty (UICUF), a union composed of tenure and non-tenured faculty, have filed a ten-day notice of their intent to strike, which is required by law. Nevertheless, they reserve the right to postpone or cancel this action at any time. Members of the UICUF, as well as non-members, may take part in the strike.

While faculty are expected to announce cancellations prior to the start of any class, we advise all students to contact their professors (via email or in class) as soon as possible. Moreover, unless a professor announces their participation in the strike, students should assume that their class will be in session.

* Please be aware that teaching assistants (TAs) are not expected to participate in the strike, therefore classes taught by TAs should still be in session.
* Graduation/ grades will not be affected by the strike.
* In the event of a strike, university operations will continue to function to the fullest extent possible.
* Students have discretion to decide whether or not to join faculty in the strike, but will be held responsible for any materials covered in classes.

For more information and the latest updates, please visit the following UIC website: [http://facultycollectivebargaining.uic.edu/?utm_source=usggsc&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=links]. This program would not have been possible without the support and funding from the Office of the Chancellor, IllinoisVENTURES, the Office of Technology Management and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. The CIF is a hybrid proof of concept and equity investment fund with an expected commitment of $2 million per year for 5 years. The launch of the CIF and its associated POC Awards Program positions UIC as a leader in the efforts to transform discoveries and technologies originating inside of universities into useful products and services that benefit society.

cif.uic.edu [http://cif.uic.edu/index2.html]

Copyright © The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois.
massmail http://www.uic.edu/test MassmailFeed Mon, 13 Jan 2014 16:15:58 -0600 Mon, 13 Jan 2014 16:15:58 -0600 test 3 test 3 massmail http://www.uic.edu/test MassmailFeed Mon, 06 Jan 2014 14:36:58 -0600 Mon, 06 Jan 2014 14:36:58 -0600 test 2 test 2 massmail http://www.uic.edu/test MassmailFeed Mon, 06 Jan 2014 14:30:30 -0600 Mon, 06 Jan 2014 14:30:30 -0600
