GED

FAST GED classes connect with Head Start parents interested in continuing their education and getting their high school diploma. Operating from family literacy centers on Chicago's west and south sides, FAST classes cover reading, writing and math skills as well as basic computer skills. The curriculum is based on the Chicago Reading Framework, developed by the Center for Literacy, and includes instruction to foster comprehension, word knowledge, fluency and writing. Students progress at their own level while gaining confidence and skills to pass the GED test. Central to FAST's mission, these classes thread family literacy training throughout all instruction, providing students with resources they can use at home to increase parent-child literacy activities. FAST also offers classes for parents whose first language is Spanish to prepare them to take the GED test in their native language.
