Family Literacy Outreach
Family Literacy Outreach is a dynamic family literacy program that engages Head Start parents in a range of hands on, interactive workshops that encourage parents to be literacy educators in their own homes. FLO uses the nationally renowned UIC FLAME family literacy curriculum. These workshops, which take place at partner Head Start sites, focus on providing parents with emergent literacy tools to use with their children and include topics such as Children's Writing, Teaching the ABCs, and Creating Home Literacy Centers. In addition, workshops connect parents to valuable community resources and encourage them to be active participants in their child's school. Parents learn strategies that empower them to be creative, knowledgeable partners in their children's education.
