Travel writing is the easiest (and certainly the most fun) way for new writers to break into print. Other benefits are terrific, too. Not only do magazines, guidebooks and anthologies pay real money, but often hotels and restaurants show their appreciation for good publicity with VIP treatment and freebies. Travel writing can be not only a hobby or career but a wonderful lifestyle. If you love to travel and have a storyteller's heart, this course is for you.
We will discuss and practice techniques aimed to help your travel writing sell . You will learn what excites editors and readers, how to structure your articles or essays for maximum impact, about the travel-writing marketplace and how to write irresistible query letters and writing samples.
Your instructor, a well-published travel writer, will give you specific tips on how to get your own writing or query into the best possible shape for the marketplace and where to send it for the most likely chance of acceptance. The class will critique one another in a high-energy, honest, but supportive workshop setting. If you don't already have a travel article or essay, don't worry; this course will help you write a compelling one. So pack your bags, your sense of adventure and your writer's eye.
