Keep Me Informed

What separates a great story from a humdrum one is not what happens but how you shape what happens into a compelling whole. This workshop gives you the tools you need to tell great stories, guiding you through the process. You will learn how to spot or invent a good story, how to create memorable and believable characters who come alive in their words and actions, how to describe settings so vividly your reader can live in them, how to choose and construct the scenes that build your story and how to create the sense of anticipation that keeps readers reading. We will also discuss revision and the basics of marketing your work. Through exercises, assignments and discussions of student work, you will master the elements of storytelling and develop the critical skills so crucial to polishing your work.

Telling Stories is open to all levels of writers including those just beginning to formulate ideas and those who have work in progress. This class is open to writers of most genres including fiction, memoir and nonfiction narrative. You will find support and inspiration to tell your stories at their best.
