Katherine A. Battee-Freeman

Katherine Ann Battee-Freeman

Kathyy has a BA in Applied Psychology and Communication from UIC, a MA in Community Counseling from Loyola, and an EDM in Human Resources Education from UIUC. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and Distance Credentialed Counselor (DCC). She has worked at UIC since 2000 and has prior experience working in a non-profit, a private educational institution, and a community college. For fun she enjoys doing arts & crafts, experiencing live music & theater, and connecting with nature.

 

Stephanie Birk

Stephanie Birk

Stephanie has a BA in Education, work experience in the non-profit sector, an MA in Guidance and Counseling, and extensive training in career assessments. Stephanie enjoys most working with students unsure of their next step, and supporting them in connecting college to career. Her door is always open. Stephanie's alter-ego is a world traveler and an avid swing dancer, and she succumbs frequently to a good cup of Irish tea. She has been known to go from campfire to dance floor in a 24-hour period–ever–in tune with her love for the great outdoors.

 

Christine R. Corral

Christine joined the OCS in summer 2014.  Her extensive career includes serving in leadership, teaching and career advising roles at Valparaiso University Law School, Loyola University Chicago Business Career Center, Indiana University Northwest, North Central College and Saint Xavier University.  Her academic credentials include completion of a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration with a minor in Counseling Psychology from Loyola University Chicago and a M.Ed. degree in College Student Personnel with a concentration in Higher Education Administration also from Loyola University Chicago.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Mass Communications from Saint Xavier University.  Her research interests include performance evaluation and career advancement.  She has traveled, taught and studied in many countries and is fluent in Spanish.  When not working, studying or reading, she enjoys spending time with her two young sons – coaching sports and building “forts”, her pets, and being very active!

 

Carmen J. Garza

Carmen joined the Career Services staff in 1998 and moved to Student Employment in 2008.  She manages the Student Employment Office.  She holds a BA in Management and Marketing.  She provides human resource services to student employees and support for all supervisors through referral of student applicants, job postings, day-to-day employment issues, and policy/procedure clarity. She develops and recruits for both on and off campus employment opportunities.  She enjoys road trips, hiking , baking and spending time with her family.

Monica Gerhardt

Monica is an Assistant Director in the Office of Career Services. She is working on her MEd here at UIC, studying Policy Studies and Gender and Women Studies. She holds a BS in Media Studies and a minor in Gender & Women Studies from UIUC. Outside of UIC, Monica will be rooting for the Bears, playing pinball, attending a concert and/or perusing a restaurant's dessert menu.

Cindy joined OCS in the summer of 2014 and brings extensive experience in the field of career services, career development, employer relations, and graduate/professional school advising.  Prior to OCS, she worked at Northwestern University where, for more than 25 years, she counseled and advised alumni, graduate and undergraduate level students.   In addition to Northwestern University, her professional experience includes working at Harper College’s Career Services and Community Counseling units plus DePaul University.  She holds a BA in Psychology and MA in Human Services and Counseling. Born and raised in Chicago, she has lived in various areas of the city and suburbs. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring great restaurants, live music, and reading.

Michael Kimball-Bryant

 

Michael has a B.A. degree in Speech Communication from Whitworth University in the great state of Washington and a M.Ed. degree in Higher Education Administration from Loyola University Chicago. Michael started in the summer of 2014 and is returning after previously serving as a graduate intern in the office. He is excited to be supporting UIC students to attain successful career development outcomes. In his pastime, Michael can be found biking around Chicago, cooking up vegetarian fare, and going on adventures with his partner, Julie.

Mark R. Martell

Mark is an Assistant Director in the Office of Career Services. He has a BA in English and an MA in Linguistics, and he is currently completing a PhD in Educational Policy Studies at UIC. Mark has professional experience working at Florida International University, Semester at Sea, Inspiration Corporation, and Harold Washington College, and has worked at UIC since 2000. In his free time, Mark enjoys travelling, watching movies, singing, and reading.

Katherine Ann Battee-Freeman

Thy is the Director for the Office of Career Services and has worked in the field of career development for nearly 15 years. Thy grew up in Iowa and has both a BA in communications and a MA in postsecondary education from the University of Northern Iowa. Prior to coming to UIC, Thy's experience included working in Career Services at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. His most unique experience was living and working in Honduras for one year. Outside of work, Thy enjoys spending time with his two young daughters.

Jorge Martinez Romo

Jorge has worked at UIC since 2007. His primary role is to help students find a variety of employment opportunities on-campus and around the Chicago-land area. He holds a BA in Political Science and Latino and Latin American Studies. When he is not helping students at the office, Jorge spends his time going to the theatre, exercising and visiting the latest museum exhibits around the city.

 

Claudia Telles

Claudia has a Bachelor's in Economics and Sociology and a Master's in Public Health Policy and Administration from UIC. Claudia's primary role is to manage the department's budget and finances as well as coordinate the Chicago Graduate & Professional School Fair. For fun she enjoys latin dancing, karaoke and exploring new restaurants around the city.

Jaime has been with OCS for 17 years. He completed both his undergrad and graduate studies at UIC and is a proud, active and Life member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association. Apart from being passionate about working with UIC students, he has also organized UIC's major job fairs for the past 16 years and continues to develop UIC's reputation with employers throughout the region. In addition, he also coordinate's UIC annual outings to see the Chicago White Sox which is attended by over 1,800 people every year!
