Retrieving library materials

  • Library staff at campus libraries will retrieve books and journals from the stacks for users with disabilities. We will make every effort to retrieve items at the time they are requested. Turnaround time may vary depending upon the volume and location of the materials. However, we can usually have the materials available for pickup within the same or next working day.
  • To request that materials be retrieved for you, please see staff in person at the Circulation or Reference Desks, or contact them by phone or e-mail.

Proxy borrowing

Arrangements can be made to have another person authorized to check out materials in your name. Contact the Circulation Desk by phone or e-mail to arrange for this service.

Library orientation and Research assistance

  • An individualized library orientation can be arranged by contacting the Reference Desk.
  • Reference Desk staff are available to provide basic research assistance.
  • If you need in-depth research assistance, we offer "Help by Appointment." To schedule an individual appointment with a librarian, contact the Reference Desk.

Sign language interpreter

One of our staff members at the Library of the Health Sciences-Chicago can provide sign language interpretation Mondays through Fridays, from 9am-5pm. Appointments should be scheduled in advance. Contact the LHS Reference Desk. (Please note: The sign language interpreter is not certified.)

Arrangements can also be made for the sign language interpreter to come to the Daley Library. Contact the LHS Reference Desk.

Photocopying

Copies can be made by library staff at no additional cost (seven cents per page for both standard and enlarged copies). A UIC Flames copy card loaded with sufficient money should be provided at the time of the request. The UIC Flames copy card can be purchased in the library or other campus locations for an initial cost of $1.00.

Turnaround time for copying may vary depending upon the volume of a request. However, delivery usually occurs within the same or next working day. To make arrangements, see staff in person at the Circulation or Reference Desks, or contact them by phone or e-mail.
