Services for Users with Disabilities at UIC Libraries

Assistive Technology

  • Richard J. Daley Library
  • Library of the Health Sciences-Chicago

    Richard J. Daley Library:

    PC workstation on an electronic height adjustable table with the following software and devices:
    • JAWS: Screen reader
    • Kurzweil 3000 and scanner: Scan and read program
    • Zoomtext: Screen magnification software.
    • Headphones are available at the Reference Desk. However, users are encouraged to bring their own.
    • Track ball device is available at the Reference Desk.

      Temporarily located on the second floor, in the Reference office on the west side of the building. Please ask at the Reference Desk, 2nd floor middle.

      Hotkeys to launch applications are:
      CTL+ALT+J for Jaws; CTL+ALT+Z for Zoomtext; CTL+ALT+K for Kurzweil 3000

      Reference Desk staff can assist patrons in using the workstation. Students who need assistive technology software training should contact the UIC Disability Resource Center at 312-413-2183 (Voice) or 312-413-0123 (TTY). Patrons with visual impairments in need of training who are not UIC students should contact the Chicago Lighthouse at 1850 W. Roosevelt by calling 312-666-1331.

    Public pcs with Windows operating system: To access Windows built-in accessibility software, press the following key combination: Windows key + U.

    Closed-circuit television (CCTV): Text enlarger for books and journals. Temporarily located in the Reference office on the second floor on the west side of the building. Please ask at the Reference Desk, 2nd floor middle.

    Library of the Health Sciences-Chicago:
